Resources for States Integrating Medicare and Medicaid Data

Welcome to the State Data Resource Center (SDRC) website!

This website provides information on the resources available to state Medicaid agencies for coordinating the care of individuals enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid (Medicare-Medicaid enrollees) and ensuring the integrity of the Medicaid program. These resources include:

  • Descriptions of the types of Medicare data available to state Medicaid agencies;
  • Assistance with requesting Medicare data from CMS, including outlines of the process for requesting Medicare data; and
  • Assistance with using Medicare data for Medicare-Medicaid care coordination or program integrity activities.

In addition to these document-based resources, the site provides contact information for the SDRC Team—a group of Medicare data experts dedicated to helping state Medicaid agencies acquire, process, and maintain Medicare data for Medicare-Medicaid care coordination and program integrity activities.

For information on the SDRC Team, visit the About section of this site. For information on upcoming events and site updates, visit the Announcements and Webinars section.

On December 19, 2018, CMS released a State Medicaid Director (SMD) Letter highlighting 10 opportunities for state Medicaid agencies to better serve dual eligible beneficiaries for Medicare and Medicaid. The opportunities outlined in this letter – none of which require complex demonstrations or Medicare waivers – are grouped into three broad areas: (1) integrating care through managed care arrangements; (2) using Medicare data to inform care coordination and program integrity initiatives; and (3) reducing administrative burden for dual eligible beneficiaries and the providers who serve them. The SMD letter also provides the names and contact information of CMS staff who can assist state Medicaid agencies in implementing each of the described opportunities. The SDRC can assist state Medicaid agencies with the Medicare Data Opportunities outlined in the SMD letter (Opportunities #5 and 6); please contact us for more information.
